Publishing with KDP – First Steps

Hmmmm. Just when I get it together to launch my first title for KidWrite!, Amazon has a new POD available for use. It seems, from the video I watched and the searches I’ve made, that Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) is a good fit for what I want to accomplish.

I say this because:

  • I’m assuming KDP is going to replace createspace.
  • At this time, I’m publishing books that are primarily for the US educational market.
  • I want the choice of paperback and ebook.
  • I like the idea of one dashboard.
  • I love the idea of one accounting system.

To open your KDF account:

  1. Go to Kindle Direct Publishing. Watch the video if you’re so inclined.
  2. Sign in with your Amazon account.
  3. Click on your Account tab at the top of the page.
  4. Enter the Author/Publisher Information. (The Publisher name and the Bank Account name need to be the same, so heads up here.)
  5. Next up is Getting Paid. It seems PayPal no longer accepts Direct Deposit, so pick an account in the name of the Publisher and enter the required info. For some reason, you must Save before you can continue.
  6. You have to complete the Tax Information before you can receive payment, so get it over with now.
  7. Click Save.
  8. Having opened your account, click on Bookshelf and browse through the links and info you find there!
